Since this issue is about ‘Cooking and Camping’, I thought I would give you my recipe for frying an egg on the CPU of a laptop computer when lost in the wilderness. But how many of you are ever going to find yourself in that situation?! So maybe I should write about something with broader appeal...
As usual I need look no further than the treasure trove of information on WaveLengthMagazine.com.
FOR COOKING AFFICIANADOS
If this present “Cooking and Camping” issue whets your appetite for more, see the Dec/Jan 2000 issue on “Kayak Cookery” in our Back Issues section, for a satisfying dessert. All the articles from that first cooking issue are posted on the website at www.coastandkayak.com/magazine00.php.
If you're still hungry after consuming all that, you can also look at the 'Paddle Meals' page, www.coastandkayak.com/meals.php, which has links to all of the recipes and related cooking articles in every past issue posted - dating back to 1994.
FOR ADVENTUROUS CAMPERS
If you're into adventurous camping and looking for a special excursion, then check out our Destinations section www.coastandkayak.com/destinations.php, where you will find articles about paddling trips all over the world.
Perhaps you're planning that once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Queen Charlotte Islands - timeless Haida Gwaii, home of the Haida people. Or Clayoquot Sound, scene of mass protests and arrests in battle to save priceless ancient rainforests. Or you may be setting your sites on Kyuquot or the Nuchatlitz, the Broughton, the Broken Group, the Gulf Islands or Washington's San Juan Islands. Perhaps you're looking further afield, to Baja, Thailand, New Zealand?
If you want an expert guide to lead you on your adventure (and the outdoor cooking expertise so that your stomach stays happy), the WaveLength website has a wealth of information. Go to www.coastandkayak.com/industrylinks.php where you can choose to browse over two hundred tour operators from all over the world indexed both geographically or alphabetically. Be sure to check out the 'Logo Link' companies (their logo plus a brief description of the type of tours they offer, linked to their websites where you can find out much more about their excursions.) This is a great resource at your fingertips.
Now about frying that egg...
