We are delighted to announce the addition of Susan Handel to our staff as Assistant Editor.
Sue's background in sea kayaking began with working for several years for North Island Water Sports in Nanaimo. She remembers Larry and Colleen Roy patiently guiding her through the ins and outs of hull shape, fibreglass vs plastic, and how many fleece jackets does one actually need!
She then migrated south to Victoria, in order to complete a double major in environmental studies and geography. Her interest and concern for the environment began to take shape during this time... as did her need to pay tuition. Thus, for five long summers, she found herself attempting to replant some of BC's forests (with additional experience in the field, including a volunteer reforestation project in Costa Rica and Fisheries work in the BC Interior).
A former highschool athlete of the year, with excellent writing and photography skills, solid environmental study and fieldwork and a strong background in paddling, Sue will be a great asset to WaveLength.
She is also taking an Assistant Sea Kayak Guide course this spring and plans to spend some weekends instructing and guiding kayakers through Eco-West Adventures in Cowichan Bay. We invite you to contact her at our office (250/247-9789) or by email at sue@island.net
