From equipment to advanced strokes and techniques, Hutchinson describes in detail everything you need to know to master the sport of sea kayaking. Each chapter includes the author's own diagrams and photographs detailing each technique. Photographs of the author in action show his expertise in handling a variety of situation on the open water. Along with techniques, Hutchinson also includes chapters on weather, tides, and navigation.
This fourth edition contains a chapter not found in previous editions, on the history and origins of the kayak, as well as new information on navigation.
Derek C. Hutchinson is a 30-year veteran of sea kayaking. He has led kayaking tours on the North Sea as well as on the Pacific Ocean, from Alaska to Baja, California. He is a senior coach of the British Canoe Union, and has developed ten sea kayaks of his own design.
